Hello! Thank you for registering with the University Writing Center (UWC)!
ABOUT US:
The University Writing Center is a community of writers supporting writers. Our mission is to make spaces for practicing and learning about writing. Our work is conducted through peer-to-peer mentoring by undergraduate and graduate writing consultants. The work of consulting requires respecting and valuing the unique cultural and personal histories, knowledge, and language practices each writer brings into their writing. We see ourselves as advocates of writers and writing. We strive to be a welcoming, inclusive space for all IUPUI community members to share their writing in an interactive and collaborative learning environment.
You can visit our website at any time to schedule an appointment, review our current hours and programming offerings, and to read our blog. Additionally, we also have information about becoming a writing center consultant and the kinds of professional development work consultants get to engage in in addition to consulting with writers.
GENERAL APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:
You may schedule up to 4 appointments per week, up to 2 weeks in advance. Writers are limited to two appointments per day. Appointments are 45 minutes long and start on the hour.
Appointments are marked as missed at 10 minutes past the hour. After 3 missed appointments in a semester, your account will be disabled for the remainder of the semester.
You may cancel your appointment online from the schedule up to 3 hours before your appointment time. If your appointment is canceled less than 3 hours before your appointment start time, it will be counted as a late cancelation. After 5 late cancelations in a semester, your account will be disabled until the end of the semester.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN AN APPOINTMENT:
At the University Writing Center, we focus on making better writers, not just better writing. This means we will talk to you not only about ways to improve your current piece of writing but also how to apply concepts to your future writing projects. Everyone's writing process is different, and we want to learn about yours and your relationship with writing and talk about ways for you to improve that process. What's working for you, and what's holding you back? Talking about what restrains or inspires you as a writer can be key to growth.
Writers of all types can benefit greatly from sharing ideas with one another. We strongly believe that writing should be seen as a collaborative process, so we emphasize discussion in our consultations.
You can access more information about what to expect in an appointment through this link.
